Sustainable Use Directive

The Sustainable Use Directive (SUD)

The SUD has been transposed into UK law and all users of professional pesticides are required to abide by it.

You can find details of the SUD here

The UK's National Action Plan sets out a framework for action to achieve the sustainable use of pesticides.

Users of professional pesticides must be able to demonstrate the following legal measures:

1. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is being followed

2. The person applying pesticides holds a recognised certificate of competence

This has been a legal requirement since November 26th 2015.  Before that date it was possible for operators born before December 31st 1964 to operate under 'Grandfather Rights'.

If you are yet to achieve a recognised certificate there are a number of options for you to consider.  Find out more about the options available to you.

3. The equipment being used holds a valid NSTS certificate.

This has been a legal requirement since November 26th 2016 and the rules changed in November 2020.  Find our more about the new testing requirement.
