The VI's BeeConnected scheme sponsors lecture at The National Honey Show 2024
17 October 2024
The VI's BeeConnected scheme is to sponsor a lecture by eminent beekeeper Alan Baxter on integrated management of the threat from yellow legged hornets at The National Honey Show 2024
At BeeConnected, we have always been proactive at highlighting the risk from yellow legged hornets to the British beekeeping industry. This autumn, the VI and BeeConnected is sponsoring a lecture to be given at The National Honey Show on Friday 15th October, 14.00 by Alan Baxter. Alan will outline the strategy that he developed whilst beekeeping in France where yellow legged hornets are now endemic. Alan's talk will outline the practical steps that UK beekeepers can use to fight the threat posed from the increasing number of yellow legged hornets recently seen in the south and east of England.
The National Honey Show is held annually. The date and venue for 2024 is Thursday 24th to Saturday 26th October at Sandown Park, Esher, Surrey, UK
Further information on yellow legged hornets can be found on the British Beekeepers Association website here.

Alan began beekeeping in the Loire Valley in France, where he lived and worked for 23 years, and where his apiary was the target of heavy predation by yellow legged hornets. He relocated to England in 2020 and now manages 20 colonies in 3 apiaries in Hampshire, and breeds queens in a queen rearing apiary in his garden, and mentors 5 novice beekeepers. He serves as a Hampshire Beekeepers Association Trustee and yellow legged hornet Coordinator, BBKA yellow legged hornet Adviser and yellow legged hornet Ambassador, and is the author of the Hampshire yellow legged hornet Contingency Plan.
Alan writes regular blogs and articles on beekeeping and gives talks around the country on Beekeeping, the yellow legged hornet, the Wines of the Loire Valley, the 1982 Falklands War, and the Royal Marines in the Jungle, Desert and Arctic.
His book “Fit2Fight – A Practical System for Managing the Asian Hornet” is published
