The Voluntary Initiative at the AHDB Agronomists' Induction 2024

The Voluntary Initiative (VI) is excited to participate in the upcoming AHDB Agronomists' Induction 2024, taking place on October 23-24 at the Peterborough Marriott Hotel

  • Agronomist
  • Agronomist2 AHDB

This event is designed to help early-career agronomists understand key resources and services available to them, fostering essential networking opportunities with industry experts, including AHDB staff and partner organisations.

Why the Voluntary Initiative Matters

As a key exhibitor, the Voluntary Initiative plays a vital role in promoting sustainable farming practices. At the heart of our mission is the advancement of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and stewardship of plant protection products (PPPs). We aim to support agronomists in balancing crop productivity with environmental protection.

Agronomists attending the Induction will gain insights into the practical application of IPM strategies, with a particular focus on environmental sustainability and the responsible use of PPP's. Representatives from the VI will be available during the event’s lunch break on the first day to engage with attendees, answering questions and sharing resources.

What to Expect from the Voluntary Initiative at the Event

The VI team will showcase several of its initiatives and resources during the event, including:

  • IPM Tools and Resources: Attendees will learn about the VI IPM Hub, which provides comprehensive tools and information on best practices in pest management.
  • Stewardship Programs: Our experts will highlight key stewardship efforts that ensure the safe use and disposal of PPPs, aligned with the Sustainable Use Directive.
  • Networking Opportunities: With other key organisations such as BBRO, PGRO, LEAF and BASIS attending, the VI will help kick-start meaningful career-long relationships for agronomists.

VI’s commitment to supporting the next generation of agronomists remains central to our participation at the Induction. Our focus on environmental care through the Pollinator Protection Initiative, water safeguarding, and best practices in grassland management will also be featured prominently in our discussions and materials.

Be sure to join us during the lunch sessions on Day 1 to learn more about how you can integrate these vital practices into your work!
